A page called “under $100” ought to be full of prices, and this one is not — so here is the reason up front, because it changes how you should read it.
The sub-$100 diaper bag market is almost entirely retailer-native brands. Ruvalino, Hap Tim and Bag Nation sell through marketplaces rather than storefronts of their own, and none of them publishes a list price we could read on a brand page. The only numbers available for them are retail prices that move week to week. We do not print those as fact anywhere on this site, because a price written into a page in September is wrong by October and it is the reader who gets caught out. Every buy button here goes straight to the live listing, which always has today’s number.
What we can do is show you exactly where the line is, using the brands that do publish their own list prices.

Read those two tables together and the interesting finding is how little you give up. Capacity and pocket count in the sub-$100 tier are competitive with bags listing at $199. What you give up is published information — two of the four state no empty weight — plus materials, zip quality and, in three of four cases, any laptop provision at all.
So the rule we would actually apply: if the bag is only a diaper bag, buy in this tier and spend the difference on something else. If it has to double as your work bag, the laptop compartment is the one thing worth crossing the line for, and our laptop compartment page covers who does it properly.

Any page that prints a current price for these bags, including ours. Nobody maintaining a hundred product pages is re-checking retail prices weekly, and a stale number reads as confidently as a fresh one.

What do you give up under $100?
Materials and published specs, mostly. The sub-$100 tier is dominated by retailer-native brands that do not run storefronts of their own, so they publish less — two of the four here state no empty weight. What you rarely give up is capacity or pocket count, which is why this tier is genuinely good value.

Is a cheap diaper bag a false economy?
Not in this category, in our reading. A diaper bag carries soft objects and gets three years of use, not ten. The place to spend more is a bag doing double duty as a work bag, where a padded laptop compartment and better zips earn their money.
