“Insulated pockets” covers two different things, and the listings rarely make that clear. One is a pair of narrow sleeves sized for bottles, usually on the outside of the bag where you can reach them. The other is a single thermal-lined compartment that takes pouches, snacks and an ice pack. You want a different bag depending on which of those describes your day.

Nobody publishes how long it stays cold
Worth stating plainly, because it is the question everyone has. Not one of these five brands publishes a temperature-retention figure, so any number you read on this subject is somebody’s kitchen test or an invention. An insulated pocket is a passive liner: it slows heat transfer, it does not refrigerate. With an ice pack it does much more than without one.
The practical consequence is that the ice pack is the product doing the work, and the pocket’s job is to hold it against the bottle and keep that away from everything else. Which reframes what to shop for: room for an ice pack, and a liner you can wipe out.
Two sleeves, or one compartment
If you carry bottles, two sleeves is the better design and it is what most of this group offers. The bottles stay upright and apart, they sit where you can reach without opening the bag, and a spill is contained to one sleeve.
If you carry a day’s food — pouches, a yogurt, a sandwich for you, an ice pack — a bottle sleeve is the wrong shape and you want a compartment.
