The verdict: buy the Ergobaby Omni 360 if you want one carrier for the next three years and a belt that fits two different adults. Buy the BabyBjörn Mini if the baby is under six months and cabin-bag space is your binding constraint. They are not really competitors — they solve different problems, and the published weight ranges say so.

Where the difference actually shows up
At 20 lb. This is the crossover point. The Mini is safety tested to 24 lb but BabyBjörn is explicit that it is most comfortable for the wearer only to 15 lb, and without a hip belt there is nowhere for the load to go except your shoulders. The Omni at 20 lb is still on its hip belt and barely noticing. If your baby will pass 15 lb during the trip you are planning, that is the answer.
In a security line. The Mini has fewer buckles and comes off faster, which is a genuine advantage at a checkpoint. See our airport security guide for what to expect either way.
In the bag. The Mini fits in a personal item. The Omni does not, really — it goes in a carry-on or it stays on your body. On a trip where you are already at the bag limit this decides it.
With two parents. The Omni’s published 26-52 in belt is a wide range for one carrier. BabyBjörn does not publish a fit range for the Mini at all, which makes it harder to buy confidently for two different bodies — see our pages for plus-size and petite wearers.

Is Ergobaby or BabyBjörn better for a newborn?
Both work from birth without an insert. The BabyBjörn Mini is purpose-built for a newborn and is smaller and faster to put on; the Ergobaby Omni 360 also starts at 7 lb but is a physically larger carrier that will still fit at 40 lb. For the newborn months alone the Mini is the better fit; for one purchase, the Omni.
Which one fits a larger wearer?
The Omni 360, and it is the only one of the two with published numbers to check: 26-52 in belt, 28-46 in straps. BabyBjörn does not publish a wearer fit range for the Mini.
Do both do back carry?
No. The Omni 360 supports front-inward, front-outward, hip and back. The BabyBjörn Mini does front-facing in and front-facing out only — back carrying is a feature of BabyBjörn's larger Harmony model, not the Mini.
Which is better for a plane?
For the wearing part, both are fine at cruise and neither may be used during taxi, takeoff or landing. For the packing part the Mini wins outright: it fits in a personal item where the Omni takes real cabin-bag volume.
