Best Travel Cribs for 2 Year Olds

At two the deciding spec is not weight or packed size. It is the published height limit, and the sentence about climbing out that sits next to it.

For a two-year-old who still sleeps contained, the Newton Deluxe is the pick: a 48 x 34 in sleep surface published for children up to 35 in tall, with no weight limit stated because the mattress rests directly on the floor (newtonbaby.com, read 2026-10-01). If the trip involves an airport, take the Guava Lotus instead — published newborn to three, 15 lb, backpack straps.

And if your two-year-old climbs, neither of those is the answer and the honest recommendation is the Regalo My Cot, published for ages 2 to 5 with a 75 lb limit. Here is how to tell which of those three you are.

The spec that decides this is height, not weight

Travel cribs are usually sold on weight and packed size, and for a baby that is the right frame. At two it is the wrong one. A travel crib is an enclosure, and an enclosure stops working when the child is tall enough to get over the wall — which is why the published limits at this end of the range are measured in inches of child, not pounds.

Newton publishes up to 35 in tall for both the Compact and the Deluxe, and says explicitly that there is no weight limit because the mattress sits on the floor rather than on a suspended platform. Graco publishes its Simple Solutions playard limit as under 35 in tall, under 30 lb and unable to climb out (retail listing, read 2026-09-29). Guava publishes an age instead: newborn to three, or until the child can climb out.

Three different brands, three different ways of saying the same thing. The climb-out clause is the real limit, and it arrives whenever it arrives.

Quoted from each brand's page as cited under Sources, read 2026-10-01 or later. "Not published" means absent from the page we read. Newton publishes two different weights for the Compact and we report both rather than choosing one.

Measure your child standing, against that second column, before you spend anything. A 35 in two-year-old is already at the published limit of both Newton cribs, and no feature further down the page changes that.

Why the Deluxe rather than the Compact

Both Newton cribs share the 35 in height limit, so the difference at two years is floor area. The Deluxe publishes a 48 x 34 in sleep surface; the Compact publishes 38 x 24 in. That is roughly the difference between a two-year-old who can roll over and one who hits mesh.

You pay for it in portability. The Deluxe is 17 lb and folds to 35 x 12.5 x 11 in; the Compact is 12 or 13 lb depending on which Newton page you read, and folds to 24 x 10 x 10 in with a bag that converts to a backpack. The Deluxe is a crib for a car and a room. Our Newton play yard page compares the two sizes properly, including the bassinet Newton sells separately for the Deluxe.

What comes after the crib

The two non-cribs on this page are not consolation prizes, they are the next product. The Regalo My Cot publishes ages 2 to 5 and a 75 lb limit in a 46.5 x 24.5 x 9 in fold-and-go frame with no assembly — three more years of use, starting now. The hiccapop publishes a 49 x 26 in sleep area inside a 62 x 39 in bumpered outer at 12 in high, with the pump and the bag included.

The cost of both is containment. A child in a bed can get out of it, which means night one of a trip is a different kind of evening. Plan for it: a familiar sheet, the same bedtime routine, and a room dark enough that getting up is unattractive. A blackout approach to the room does more for this than any product choice. The full category is in best toddler travel beds.

If you are flying with a two-year-old

At two, a child usually needs their own seat on a US airline rather than a lap, and the crib question becomes a baggage question. The Lotus is the only product on this page you can put on your back: 15 lb, 24 x 12 x 8 in, padded straps. The Regalo cot at 46.5 in long is checked baggage. The hiccapop needs a power socket at the other end.

Our travel cribs for flying page covers the carry question in detail, and do hotels provide cribs is worth reading first — for a single hotel stay with a two-year-old, the honest answer is often to borrow one rather than carry one.

What we’d skip

Any crib for a child already past its published height limit. 35 in is Newton’s number, not ours, and it is not a soft limit.

Bassinet-mode play yards at this age. The bassinet limits are the lowest numbers on the whole product — Graco publishes under 15 lb for the Simple Solutions bassinet and 4moms 18 lb for the Breeze Plus. They are irrelevant at two. See pack and plays with a bassinet.

A crib bought on packed size alone for a two-year-old. The smallest pack in our registry is also the smallest sleep surface. At this age that is backwards.

Inflatables with no pump plan. The hiccapop’s pump is electric. Confirm there is a socket where you are going, or accept a long evening.

Good at

  • 48 x 34 in sleep surface — far more floor than the 38 x 24 in of the Compact
  • Published for children up to 35 in tall, with no weight limit stated because the mattress sits on the floor
  • Fully washable Wovenaire breathe-thru mattress core
  • Breathable mesh walls on a steel frame; folds to 35 x 12.5 x 11 in
  • GREENGUARD Gold; $299.99 at newtonbaby.com, read 2026-10-01

Bad at

17 lb and a 49.5 x 35 x 28 in footprint make this the biggest, heaviest thing on this page — it is a crib for a room, not for an airport. The 35 in height limit is also close: measure your child before you buy, because a tall two-year-old may already be past it.

2Best if it has to travel

Guava Lotus Travel Crib

Published newborn to three, or until the child can climb out — 15 lb with backpack straps and a side door a two-year-old can walk through.

Standards16 CFR 1221 / ASTM F406; GREENGUARD Gold certified

Specs from Guava Family Lotus Travel Crib product page, read 2026-09-27. Manufacturers revise specs without notice — check the listing before you buy.

Good at

  • Published newborn to three, the longest stated age range of any crib in our registry
  • Side zip door — a two-year-old can walk in and out rather than be lifted over a 25.5 in wall
  • Padded backpack straps and a 24 x 12 x 8 in pack
  • Mattress 41.5 x 23.5 x 1.4 in, low-VOC and insulated

Bad at

"Or until the child can climb out" is the operative half of that age range, and a determined two-year-old can often climb out of a 25.5 in enclosure. The side door makes it easier still if it is not zipped. Buy this for the trips you have left, not for a year of use.

3Best when the crib is over

Regalo My Cot Portable Toddler Bed

A fold-and-go toddler cot published for ages 2 to 5 with a 75 lb weight limit — the only product here whose published age range starts where the cribs end.

Best for: The two-year-old who is already climbing out of everything

Regalo My Cot Portable Toddler Bed published specs

Weight limit75 lb
Ages2 to 5 years
Setupfold-and-go frame, no assembly

Specs from Regalo My Cot Portable Toddler Bed listing, read 2026-09-27. Manufacturers revise specs without notice — check the listing before you buy.

Good at

  • Published ages 2 to 5 and a 75 lb weight limit — years of use, not months
  • 46.5 x 24.5 x 9 in, so it stands clear of a cold or dirty floor
  • Fold-and-go frame with no assembly
  • Nothing to climb out of, because it is a bed

Bad at

It is not an enclosure, so a child who gets out of bed at 2am is simply out of bed. That is the trade you are accepting when the crib stops working, and it is better faced deliberately than discovered on night one of a trip.

4Most bed for the money

hiccapop Inflatable Toddler Travel Bed

A 49 x 26 in sleep area inside a 62 x 39 in bumpered outer at 12 in high, with an XL travel bag and an electric turbo pump included.

Best for: A hotel floor and a toddler who rolls

hiccapop Inflatable Toddler Travel Bed published specs

Sleep area49 x 26 in
Height12 in
Product weight8 lb
IncludesXL travel bag and electric turbo pump

Specs from hiccapop Inflatable Toddler Travel Bed product page, read 2026-09-27. Manufacturers revise specs without notice — check the listing before you buy.

Good at

  • 49 x 26 in sleep area — more than the Newton Compact's 38 x 24 in
  • Safety bumpers all round, which is the closest thing to containment on a bed
  • 12 in high, so the child is well clear of a cold floor
  • 8 lb, and the pump and XL travel bag are included

Bad at

It needs mains power for the included pump and a 62 x 39 in patch of floor, which is more than some hotel rooms have spare. An inflatable is also a slow-puncture risk on a trip, and hiccapop publishes no age or weight limit on the page we read.

Questions parents actually ask

What is the best travel crib for a 2 year old?

The Newton Deluxe, if the child still sleeps contained: a 48 x 34 in sleep surface published for children up to 35 in tall, with no weight limit stated because the mattress rests on the floor. If the trip involves an airport, the Guava Lotus is published newborn to three and carries on your back at 15 lb.

Can a 2 year old sleep in a travel crib?

Only if they are inside the published limits. Both Newton cribs publish a limit of 35 in tall; the Guava Lotus publishes newborn to three or until the child can climb out. Measure your child's height against the brand's figure, and treat the climb-out clause as the real limit rather than the age.

What is the height limit on a travel crib?

35 in on the Newton Compact and the Newton Deluxe, as published by Newton. Guava publishes an age range instead — newborn to three, or until the child can climb out. Graco publishes its playard limit as under 35 in tall, under 30 lb and unable to climb out for the Simple Solutions. The figures are per product, so check yours.

What do you use when a toddler outgrows a travel crib?

A toddler travel bed. The Regalo My Cot publishes ages 2 to 5 and a 75 lb limit in a 46.5 x 24.5 x 9 in fold-and-go frame; the hiccapop inflatable publishes a 49 x 26 in sleep area inside a bumpered 62 x 39 in outer. Our toddler travel beds roundup compares the whole category.

Is a travel crib or a toddler bed better at two?

It depends on one thing: whether the child climbs. A crib that a two-year-old can climb out of is less safe than a bed they can get out of deliberately, so the moment climbing starts, the crib is finished — regardless of what the height limit says.
