A hotel room is a specific environment and travel crib spec sheets are written for a generic one. Three things change in a hotel: floor space is tighter than you plan for, the room is brighter than home, and you will be setting the crib up when you are tired and the baby is already overdue. Footprint, not packed size
For hotels the number that matters flips: it is the set-up footprint, not the packed one. The BabyBjörn Travel Crib Light is 32 x 44 in on the floor; the Guava Lotus is 45.5 x 31.5 in. In a room with two beds and a desk, thirteen inches of length is the difference between the crib fitting beside the bed and the crib living in the bathroom passage.

The light problem is the real problem
Most hotel sleep failures are not about the mattress. They are about a baby who can see the room — and see you — from the crib. That is what a blackout tent solves, and it is why the SlumberPod is on a list of cribs despite not being one. If you are sharing one room for several nights, it does more for everyone’s sleep than upgrading the crib does.
The free version: put the crib in the corner furthest from the window, turn the room lights off and use the bathroom light with the door cracked, and pack a roll of painter’s tape for the gap in the curtains — the strip of streetlight down the middle of a hotel curtain is a surprisingly common culprit.

Do hotels provide cribs?
Many do on request, usually free, and availability is not guaranteed — it is worth calling rather than assuming. The condition of a hotel crib also varies widely, and you cannot inspect it before you arrive. We go into what to ask in our separate guide.
How do I get a baby to sleep in a bright hotel room?
Separate the sleep space from the lit space. A blackout tent over the crib — the SlumberPod is the best-known — is the product answer. The cheaper version is positioning the crib in a corner away from the window and using the bathroom light with the door ajar rather than a room light.
What footprint do I need to plan for?
Between 32 x 44 in for the BabyBjörn and 45.5 x 31.5 in for the Guava Lotus. In a standard hotel room with two queen beds, the space between the bed and the wall is often narrower than 32 in, so the crib usually ends up at the foot of the bed or in the bathroom passage.
Is it safe to put a travel crib in the bathroom?
It is common practice for the light and noise reasons and there is nothing inherently wrong with it, provided the crib is not near a tub, a heater or anything hanging. The safe sleep rules do not change: firm flat surface, fitted sheet, nothing else in the crib.
