“Pack ’n play” is Graco’s brand name that became the generic word for a play yard, and it is what most parents actually search for. The thing that makes shopping it confusing is that one frame can be three products — a playard, a bassinet and a changing station — and each mode has its own weight limit. Those three numbers, not the overall dimensions, are what decide how long you get to use the thing you bought.

Each figure is quoted from the source cited in Sources for that product, read 2026-09-27 or 2026-09-29. "Not published" means the brand does not state it on the page we read — not that the frame lacks a limit.
The honest headline from that table is how many cells are empty. Only the Graco Simple Solutions and the 4moms Breeze Plus publish a limit for every mode they offer. If you want to know in advance when each stage ends, those are the two frames making it possible, and the Simple Solutions is the only one that covers all three.
The bassinet limit is the one that bites
Every published bassinet figure in this category sits between 15 and 18 lb. For an average baby that is somewhere around five to six months — and rolling over ends bassinet use regardless of weight, often sooner. So the bassinet is a months-long convenience inside a years-long product, and it is worth knowing that before you pay extra for it.
The changer is similar but slower: the Simple Solutions publishes 25 lb, which is roughly 18 months. Useful, and still the second thing you stop using. More on that in our changing-table playard page.
Which one, for which house
One frame, at home, covering the whole first three years: the Graco Simple Solutions. All three modes, all three limits published, 22.88 lb.
It has to travel as well as live somewhere: the Graco Jetsetter at 13.7 lb, accepting the unpublished limits.
Someone else will open it: the 4moms Breeze Plus. One push. That is worth more than a spec sheet in a house where a grandparent sets it up alone.
Most room for the money, one job: the Newton Deluxe at 51 x 35 in, with a mattress you can wash.
What we’d skip
Frames that publish no limits at all. Three of the six above leave most cells blank. They are still real products, but you are buying without knowing when each stage ends.
Aftermarket mattresses and toppers. Sold specifically for these frames and contrary to the safe sleep guidance every one of these manufacturers builds to. A gap at the edge is its own hazard.
Second-hand frames of unknown age. CPSC’s rule at 16 CFR part 1221 has been revised over the years, and recalls in this category are real. A frame from a garage cannot be checked against the version in force.
Paying for a bassinet you will use for five months if what you actually need is floor space for three years. Read the bassinet limit first and decide deliberately.

What is a pack 'n play?
Graco's brand name for a play yard, which has become the generic term. CPSC defines a play yard as a framed enclosure with a floor and mesh or fabric sides, for a child who cannot climb out and is under 35 in in height. The mandatory US standard is at 16 CFR part 1221, incorporating ASTM F406.
What weight limit does a pack 'n play have?
It has several, and they are different numbers. On the Graco Simple Solutions: playard under 30 lb and under 35 in tall, bassinet under 15 lb, changer up to 25 lb. The bassinet limit is always the lowest and always the first one you hit — usually around six months.
Can a baby sleep in a pack 'n play every night?
Yes. The AAP names a portable play yard conforming to CPSC standards, with a firm flat mattress and a fitted sheet, as an appropriate sleep surface. What makes it unsafe is adding a softer mattress, a topper or loose bedding — the thin pad it shipped with is the correct firmness.
Pack 'n play or travel crib?
A pack 'n play gives you more sleep space and more features for the money; a travel crib is engineered to fold small and be carried. They are the same regulated category. If it will go through an airport buy the travel crib, otherwise buy the playard.
How long does a pack 'n play last?
Until the child can climb out — that is the limit CPSC frames the category around, not a birthday. For most children that lands somewhere between two and three years, and some stop being containable earlier.
