United’s family-travel page renders its policy content with client-side JavaScript. A plain fetch returns an empty shell, and a site-scoped search returned the same. We attempted both on 2026-09-27. The pages that were readable — the carry-on bags page — gave us real figures, and those are below.

Most articles in this space would fill the gap with figures borrowed from another airline or from a competitor’s article. Airline policies are exactly the kind of figure where that goes wrong, and being wrong about a baggage allowance at a gate costs a family money and time. So this page states the gap instead. What we could verify

The one line that is genuinely useful

United publishes that in addition to one carry-on bag and one personal item you may bring additional items on board, including FAA-approved child restraint systems or safety seats (united.com, read 2026-09-27). That means a car seat you intend to use in a purchased seat does not eat your bag allowance. Combined with the FAA’s own position — that the safest place for a child under two is an approved restraint rather than a lap (faa.gov, read 2026-09-27) — it is a reasonable argument for bringing the seat. What to do about the gaps

Ask United, in writing. Through the reservation or by message, so you have a record at the counter.
